A Science-Based Approach for Managing Diabetes

The University of Chicago Kovler Diabetes Center offers a unique, fully comprehensive approach to diagnosing and treating diabetes. Our work focuses on adults and teenagers who have type 1 and insulin-dependent type 2 diabetes ... those at the highest risk for serious complications.

We understand how overwhelming diabetes can be and the complex ways that it can dominate one's life. That's why we apply multidisciplinary expertise and vast resources to managing diabetes. We address diabetes and its full impact on each person's life, including the disease's potential to affect nearly every body system from head to toe.

Our science-based approach means that patient care is firmly rooted in scientific knowledge. Research discoveries made right here at the University of Chicago Medical Center - along with advances made around the world - are integrated into patient care. We apply the newest and best options to help individuals manage their diabetes. Additionally, research activities here aim to someday prevent diabetes among those most at risk.

Our approach is:

  • Science-based- Research advances mean more options and more effective treatment for patients. The University of Chicago has over a century of accomplishments in diabetes-related research.
  • Multidisciplinary- Physicians who specialize in different areas of medicine and surgery address the broad impact of diabetes on the kidneys, heart and circulation, nerves, eyes, feet and more. Nurses, social workers, dietitians and other health professionals address the full spectrum of diabetes-related issues.
  • All encompassing-Through research and patient care, we're focused on treating, preventing and even curing diabetes
